BRIGHTSTORE GETS WINTER FUNDING BOOST

BrightStore has been awarded funding to help feed more people during the winter months as the Coronavirus pandemic continues to impact on the ability of those in need to access and afford food.

The funding was awarded to BrightStore by Brighton & Hove City Council as part of the government’s £170 million Winter COVID Grant scheme. The aim of the scheme is to provide support to vulnerable households and families with children particularly affected by the pandemic throughout the winter period.

The £3,500 grant will be used by BrightStore to increase the amount of food it provides for vulnerable households in Hollingdean and Hove served by the weekly stores in both areas of the city at Hollingdean Community Centre and the Vallance Community Centre. It will also enable BrightStore to offer more free memberships and places for those in particular need. The funding will cover the period up to the end of March.

A number of other community food schemes across the city also secured funding as part of the Winter COVID Grant scheme including the Cornerstone Community Centre in Hove.

If you or anyone you know might benefit from becoming a BrightStore member and getting a weekly shop of high quality, mostly locally sourced food and other essentials during the winter months and beyond please get in touch at info@brightstore.org or call 07306 655432.
